As of tonight, I have been in Majuro for one week. So far it has been an amazing experience.
I survived my first work week. Built forms for counter tops, poured said counter tops as well as scrapped paint and reinforced the ceiling of the Kingdom Hall. I have been working with Group B on the Rita Kingdom Hall and Missionary Home.
This past weekend the congregations here in Majuro had their Circuit Assembly which I was able to attend for a session. It was amazing to see the brothers who moved out here speaking the language fluently in their talks.
I had an interesting experience this past Saturday that I shall relate at this time.
Saturday was a day off for Group B due to the Assembly. We were given the option to go or not since the majority of the talks would be in Marshallese and since I had already had the Assembly in Guam I decided to make my way up to Laura to visit Group A who still had to work that day.
My plan was to catch the bus which would take me up to Laura, it being about a 40 minute drive. To do that I had to take a Taxi to the ideal location to catch the bus.
So at about 7:30 in the morning I walked out to the main road and caught a cab with a couple other people. I paid the Taxi driver the 75 cents he was due for the cab ride.
I asked a girl that was riding in the cab with me where the best place would be to catch the bus and explained that I was trying to make my way to Laura. So she told the Taxi driver where to drop me off. I thanked her and not too long after, we reached her destination and dropped her off.
Then the cab driver took me to a parking lot with a sign that said "Bus Stop".
I waited there for some time. After a while, it didn't seem like the bus was going to come.
While I sat there trying to figure out what to do, a black truck pulled up and the same girl that rode with me in the cab rolled down the window and told me to ride with her and a man who was driving the truck. She must have known that the bus wasn't going to be there for a while longer. While sitting in the back seat of the truck, I noticed that there were a few book bags back there with me. I didn't think much of it at the time.
Anyways, since they were heading to Laura as well, they offered to drop me off on the way and I made it safely to my destination.
So I was pretty stoked at how well my morning worked out.
This isn't quite the end of the story though.
The next morning I'm at the Assembly associating during the lunch break and I noticed a girl that looked very familiar. Of course, it was the same girl from the day before.
As it turns out, she is currently studying with a sister in the congregation. She had noticed when I walked out to the main road that I was coming from the Kingdom Hall as well as the fact that I looked somewhat lost. So she put two and two together and rightly assumed that I was one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
When she picked me up in the truck, her and the man she was with were on the job, heading out to make a delivery up in Laura.
She knew that as one of Jehovah's Witnesses she could trust me because as it turns out the book bags that were in the back seat with me were holding money in cash which they were delivering up in Laura.
It has, all in all, been quite a week.
So to bring an end to this post, here are some pictures from the past week.
During my lay-over in Pohnpei, I got to help cook lunch for the translation team.
Afterwards, we ate brunch at a really nice restaurant.
The night I arrived just about everyone from Group A was at the airport and so we went to dinner after.
